TapCellar - The Private Craft Beer Check-In, Logging and Journaling App App Reviews

Slow and huge

A great idea, but currently takes up 656mb (more than any other app on my phone) and is noticeably sluggish on launch and search. Would be hard to justify keeping it if there were any alternatives.

Pretty rough around the edges

It does have an impressive number of beers on file. But the app itself is not very polished.

Indispensable

You love craft beer. Gravity Well loves craft beer. A lot. TapCellar is the culmination of all that beer love, slapped onto an iPhone screen. Having a tool to track *everything* about *all* of the beers I like or dislike is fantastic. I’m also huge fan of the data being available offline (which is why the app is rather large in size). Really great stuff. It’s a power app for beer lovers.

A great app for beer explorers

Well thought out app for those of us who want to record our beer tasting journey, but dont want to leave a trail of check-ins and badges everywhere. Tasting notes and search filters are awesome. Cheers!

Essential for beer geeks

The OmniFocus of beer apps. Amazingly capable for organizing your beers, yet simple enough for anyone to use.

An App for Enjoying Beer

I’ve been beta testing this app for a couple months, and while the app hasn’t made me more handsome, it does help me enjoy beer more. I really appreciate the ability to thoughtfully record a few notes, a rating, and keep an inventory of what I’ve already purchased and what I want to buy next. It’s a fun app, and it’s great to have such a fast and comprehensive beer database on my phone at all times. So even when I’m in a bar with no wifi or cellular signal, I can still pull up a few facts about a beer and also write down my own experience.

A great app for beer lovers

This is a great new beer app from some great guys. It’s perfect for recording your beer journey including tasting notes and photos. Creating shopping/wish lists and filtered searches are great and easy to use!

Great ui

Wish I had this 3 years ago when I really started trying and getting into craft beers, app is well made, ui is great and interactivity is very intuitive, would love to see some sort of social aspect to this at some point down the line in respect to my tastes, like if I start grading beers, it might be able to match me to other people with similar taste profiles and give me good recommendations

Nice concept

It would be great to have so many beers and their information available offline. Unfortunately, the information available on the app is primarily what is on the beers packaging. The writeup on the app is the marketing writeup not a review or any new information. Additionally, nearly all the beers I looked up have an option for links to the popular databases but no links are actually entered. As a result, you dont actually get any relevant rating information. Certainly not offline and then not an actual link. This app is mainly a database of your own beer tracking and wont really help you choose a beer. The previous reviews seem quite biased and probably comp offers. I was suckered by a Twitter advertisement and paid my $5 but should have just kept my untappd since its free.

Best App for Beer Nuts

If you love craft beer, look no further for an app to catalog, rate, and take notes on all the beer your drink. Everything is available offline and the app is only social when you want.

Great idea needs a little work

I really like the idea of cataloging and journaling about all the beers I have tasted. This one isnt the easiest to navigate but with some use it gets easier. The idea of making it one hand user friendly sounds good but in practice its annoying. The only way to get to the main menu is to swipe right. Its not the easiest gesture sometimes especially if you have a case. It would also be great if this app used the scanner to read bar codes on bottles and cans. With a little work this app could be really awesome.

Fool me once

Last time I support a new app. Had I waited two weeks I could have bought two of them for the same price. New rule: wait until they go on sale or are free.

Good app but needs a few features

Overall I really like the app. I assume the devs are working on proper scaling for the iPhone 6 plus screen. I would make one request: it should be possible to read from images in the camera roll information about date and location according to the data recorded when the picture was taken. This is an important feature since often times I will add entries after the fact.

Powerful and Private

This is a great app, especially if youre looking to keep track of what youve tasted but would rather not have that data on a social website. TapCellars interface is more powerful than a simple journal, so it took a couple minutes for me to get used to all its features—I actually did go back and see the overview after skipping it the first time. Once you get the hang of it, this app is well worth your time.

Very Nice Rating System

Love almost everything about the app, it’s just a little sluggish and crashes every so often on my underpowered iPhone 4s. That aside, if you’re looking for an app that allows you to rate a bunch of beers easily, this is the one to grab. I love the fact that previous ratings are indicated on the current rating scale so you can slide the beer based not only by letter grade, but by whether or not you like it just a bit more than another beer. An extensive offline database and social connections if you want to use them make this a perfect app for an introverted beer lover.

Peformance Hurts Overall Experience

I really want to be a fan of this app, but its performance continues to impact the overall experience. I like that the app is not tied to a social tracking network, is simple to use and provides some nice journal and bookmarking features. And when I want to share my tasting notes on social networks well then I can. I also like that it has a very comprehensive database that I can access offline, but these days thats not such a big deal as I am always connected. And its this large database I guess that makes the app frustrating to use. Performance such as scrolling and searching is slow and even hangs at times or stutters as I scroll. So I will continue to use for now, but really hope the app developers can continue to optimize its performance.

Money.

performance Issues

I agree with flybone89 slow performance makes the app agonizing to use. It’s a very beautiful app and I want to use it more, but going to untapped is faster.

Pro upgrade wont work

Tried to upgrade to the Pro version several times but it wont do anything. I hit the "Pro Me!" button and nothing happens. I wish I could delete the date that automatically shows up in my list of beers. Its great for recording when you had a particular beer but Im entering in a bunch from the past and I dont have the date when I tried the beer so I would like the option of leaving that field blank. However, it automatically enters todays date there which is very annoying. Please add the option of leaving that field blank. Would actually prefer if I could have that field in the list be where I had the beer. Would be extra cool if I could edit what info I see in the list. Im fine with the Beer Name, Brewery, and Type but would like to be able to specify the other field that is currently showing the date which has no meaning when Im entering past beers. Other than the issue with the date, really liking the app. I had another app and lost all my data when I had to erase my phone because of issues I was having. I ended up setting up everything in this app instead and its much better than what I was using before.

Nicely Done!

Well suited for craft beer drinkers, TapCellar makes for an excellent beer journaling app to keep track of all your favorite and not so favorite drinking experiences. Love the always with you database, the new barcode scanning entry is great, and the app-generated mugshots are perfect for sharing with friends on Twitter. Cheers!
